Phase II
Welcome to the craft phase of writing. In these mini-classes, about five hours of teaching, you will learn the basics of how to write the primary building block of memoir: SET UP, SETTING, SCENE, POV & THE HERO JOURNEY. These classes give you handouts, specific instructions, examples & writing assignments. You can enhance these classes with a few one-on-one consults or read in an on-line virtual class.

These are the craft basics a writer needs, for fiction or creative non-fiction. You will have to tools you need to get a solid start on your writing.

Mini Class on Frame
If you wrestle with “how” to contain your own story, this class is a must for you.
What is “front story,” “backstory,” and what does it mean to frame your story using these element. This terrific class, fifty minutes long, gives you a five stage prompt that invites you to get your own experience on the page and then I also go chapter by chapter through a terrific book that will show you exactly how a book is laid out.
All you need is this teaching, five pieces of paper, a pend and a copy of the book Crazy for the Storm my Norman Ollestad. My students tell me this was one of the best teaching moments they have had. There is something about this attention to a finished book that helps a writer “click” with understanding.

It’s never too early to think about publication. This is a long journey and the destination matters.
